Hofner Blue Notes
I don't know much about Chris Rea but I saw his Jazzee Blue label (Jazzeeblue.com) advert in MOJO and was curious to get this recording. It's not a bass solo album. Tasteful grand piano and drumkit are the support and the Hofner bass is the featured (lead) instrument, the bass is doubled (overdubbed) on most tracks. The album clocks in at over 70 minutes via 12 songs of unrushed, slightly smokey backroom blue jazz. The music is neither contemporary yuppie jazz, nor is it blowhard be-bop.
